A ‘façade’ is an outward appearance which is deliberately false and gives you a wrong impression about someone or something. Such was the case when defense lawyer, Johnny Cochrane, staged OJ Simpson’s house shortly before the jury visited it during his murder trial.
“We removed all the photos of OJ with white women and replaced them with black women.” (There were 8 black women on the jury). “We put a Bible by the bedside table. We wanted them to look at his house and think, ‘Why would he ever give up all this for her?” His ruse worked. It even cut through all the scientific DNA evidence which proved beyond doubt that OJ’s blood was at the crime scene!
Not all facades are purposeful or intended to ‘deliberately’ deceive. We all have them and sometimes don’t even realize it. The first time I saw myself on television, I was floored.
